A'Musing Mondays: Welcome to the Playground
Printing failures, library convos, and falling back on flow
Hi darlin’!
So, I went to the library this morning. If you listened to the podcast episode about writing my will and having it notarized by librarians, you already know that I love the library.
Whenever I would go to visit my Gram and Bop-Bop, the first thing my Bop-Bop and I would do would be to hop in the car and go to the library. They lived a much larger town than we did so their library had multiple floors. We’d get a pile of kids books and take them home and I’d read and read and read. I doubt it’s a coincidence that every time I move to a new city, the first thing I do is get a library card.
So, of course, rather than going to the office store to print up a hard copy of Vol 1 of Better Homes & Boundaries, I went to the library.
I’m used to printing things up at home, so I had to get hooked up with the library system. But I did it! And then we went through the inevitable hurdles of connective technology. Needless to say, I got 5 pages printed of the 9. They are not even consecutive! LOLOLOL!!!
Luckily, I had read a great post this morning from The Daily Chocolate Daoist that helped me let go of control and find the vibrancy of the flow. Instead of frustration I’ve decided to approach this with curiosity.
This is all part of the creative process. Well, let’s be honest. It’s all part of the life process.
My curiosity has landed at- is this an 8.5x11 9-pager or should I do half that size? I love how it looks on the full-size page. But I don’t love how it feels in my hand. I think I’m going to love how the half-size book feels in my hand even more.
What this tells me- I need to play a little more. I got so wound up with meeting a print deadline and “selling this as a product” that I forgot to play! Play is where the answers are. Play is where you want to go with me. So, let’s play!
Oh! A cool thing that happened at the library was that when the librarian (present day=media assistant) came over to help me troubleshoot she said, “sometimes it won’t print because when it’s a commercial product they want you to pay for it.” It took me a couple of explanations to help her realize that these images were in fact created by me (and mrJames). That was so validating!
